The arts community in Wales is reeling from the news that First Minister Rhodri Morgan plans to place the Arts Council of Wales (ACW) and three other cultural bodies in Wales under the direct control of the Welsh Assembly Government.

Scotland under review

A widespread review of Scotland’s cultural activity is to “look again at [the country’s] cultural infrastructure and ask if it fit for purpose.” The review, heralded by Scotland’s First Minister, Jack McConnell in his St Andrew’s Day address in November 2003, will run for a year and investigate the current status of arts activity in Scotland.

Clwyd Theatr Cymru on the move again

A one-off grant of £100,000 by the Welsh Assembly Government has been made to enable Clwyd Theatr Cymru to resurrect its mobile touring theatre and present 20 performances in smaller, non-traditional venues such as community centres and village halls, particularly in disadvantaged areas. The mobile theatre aims to engage whole communities in all aspects of a production, including rigging the structure, hosting the theatre company, attending workshops, rehearsals and performances and taking part in the education programmes.
