Gareth Machin shares the websites he wouldn’t be without
This is a fantastic initiative, developed by the Bush Theatre, to empower writers and increase access to the very best new writing. If you’re a director looking for a new voice to champion, or a writer looking for a director to engage with your work, then this is the site for you. Equally inspiring and useful are the editorials, packed with insight and sound advice.
A brilliant partnership that increases access to the very best theatre. A shining example of how technology can work in collaboration with live art to ensure that it reaches the very widest possible audience. For a small fee, download an eclectic mix of outstanding productions and enjoy!
There are a number of websites that can help plan a walk or run but I’ve found this to be the most useful. Put in your starting location and plot a route, it will calculate distance, calories, timings etc. Also, you can see the routes plotted in by other runners – invaluable when you’re moving to a new area!
As a teenager, clutching a month-long inter-rail ticket in one hand and a copy of the Thomas Cook European Railway timetable in the other, I remember the sense of a continent waiting to be discovered. Although these days, the reality of lugging rucksacks, prams, travel cots and the like around the European rail network is decidedly less attractive, this great website allows me to recapture the romance of rail travel. An overnight train to Milan, lunch in Budapest, then on to Istanbul? Sounds great…
Having directed a number of outdoor productions, I’ve come to realise that what I expect from a weather forecast is hope rather than accuracy. This bizarre website allows you to choose which forecast provider is offering the weather you want. Unsurprisingly, you’re almost certain to find exactly what you’re looking for.
