Baroness Bull to chair Expert Advisory Panel
Baroness DEBORAH BULL CBE will chair the Expert Advisory Panel for the upcoming Cultural Education Plan, beginning in Autumn 2022.
The Cultural Education Plan, announced in the Schools White Paper last March, aims to ensure access to a diverse range of cultural education and activities for all children and young people. It will be published next year.
As Chair, Bull will oversee the development of the plan, aiming to articulate the importance of high-quality cultural education in schools, to promote the social value of cultural and creative education, to identify skills gaps and to tackle disparities in opportunity and outcome.
Bull was a principal ballerina with the Royal Ballet, a creative leader at the Royal Opera House and has served on the boards of Southbank Centre and Arts Council England. More recently, she has worked in higher education, establishing partnerships between the university and the arts and cultural sector, and has served on the governing body of the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
“Every child should have the opportunity to explore their individual and creative potential through high-quality cultural education,” Bull said.
"I’m delighted to be appointed to the role and look forward to working with the panel to develop a rich and diverse Cultural Education Plan that will deliver for children right across the country."
The government will collaborate with Arts Council England, the British Film Institute, Historic England and National Lottery Heritage Fund on the Cultural Education Plan.
The full panel membership will be announced later this year and is expected to include school and cultural sector leaders, and other experts in cultural education.
