ACW gears up for artform debate
The Arts Council of Wales is determined that its artform strategies should be informed by all who love the arts, not just the ‘usual suspects’
A new style of consultation is being launched by the Arts Council of Wales (ACW) with a series of ‘Open Space’ events across the country in preparation for the re-launch of its artform strategies. The events are described by ACW as “a pioneering form of democratically organised consultative meeting where those attending bring their ideas about where the arts in Wales should be heading”. ACW is deliberately setting out to attract the widest possible group of stakeholders to “really contribute to the process of creating a strategy for the arts”. Those who have “been in the profession for years and feel jaded”, who find that their “community [is] always left out of the discussions” or who “feel like an outsider whose ideas are never taken seriously” are being particularly targeted to attend the free meetings, which will be taking place in Llandudno, Aberystwyth, Abertillery and Cardiff.
