BBC to commission live performance projects
A two-year programme will commission 15 performance projects to perform live on BBC Two on Saturday nights.
A new partnership between BBC Arts and Battersea Arts Centre will develop a series of programmes on BBC Two that will “explore the middle ground between live performance and television”.
The two-year ‘Performance Live’ project will build on November’s ‘Live from Television Centre’ at Battersea Arts Centre, which saw artists such as Richard Dedomenici and Gecko perform live on BBC4.
The new project has three key aims:
- To extend the accessibility and reach of arts and culture
- To support artistic talent and creation of new work
- To support skills development and growth of the creative economy
Arts Council England has put out a call for performers working in theatre, dance, comedy, spoken word and live art to submit ideas for programmes that will be broadcast on BBC Two on Saturday nights.
The 15 successful commissions will be given budgets of between £100k – £200k to help with development costs, performance costs and television capture costs.
The successful projects will be announced in August.
