Bradford 2025: Organisers set out youth legacy focus
With little more than two months until the festival begins, the team behind Bradford City of Culture 2025 unveils initiatives aimed at securing a legacy.
Young people will embark on 16-month placements with Bradford’s City of Culture team as part of efforts to secure the legacy of the festival.
Under the newly-announced Young Creatives programme, 10 young people from underrepresented backgrounds in the city will embark on paid placements across various departments in the Bradford 2025 team and with partner cultural organisations, including the Brontë Parsonage Museum, Dance United Yorkshire and the National Science and Media Museum.
Bradford 2025 said the initiative, being delivered in partnership with Bradford School of Art and Bradford College, will “further cultivate the next generation of leaders and changemakers”.
During the placement, the cohort will work towards a Level 4 Professional Diploma in Creative Enterprise.
The move is part of a conscious effort to make young people central to the city’s year-long celebration of culture.
A Bradford 2025 Youth Pass, launched this week, will offer discounted tickets, priority booking, masterclasses, workshops, talks, tours and other special events to 16-to-25-year-olds.
Shanaz Gulzar, creative director, and Dan Bates, executive director of Bradford 2025, said: “Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our young population to become leaders and changemakers, starting a new chapter in the story of Bradford.
“Through a range of schemes, we are ensuring a legacy for this pivotal year, addressing the inequalities that our district and sector faces and providing opportunities for employment, long-term and meaningful transferable skills.”
