Crisis grant scheme for theatre workers launches
Royal Theatrical Fund says it does not want people in the industry to be unable to feed themselves or their family during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
Theatre workers struggling with the cost-of-living crisis can now apply for support from a crisis grant scheme launched by the Royal Theatrical Fund (RTF).
The charity said the one-off grant will be available for people who have worked in theatre for at least seven years who cannot meet their essential needs due to an unforeseen change in circumstances.
The new scheme, which launched yesterday (1 November), is for individuals who are not affected by illness or injury and do not fall under RTF's usual remit.

Samantha Bond, Chair of RTF, said: “The RTF continues to make every effort to support people in the entertainment industry in the most desperate times and that is why we have launched an Emergency Crisis Grant, running for the next six months.
“Throughout the pandemic and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, we have been there with the Theatre Community Fund and Fleabag Support Fund to provide support to thousands of applicants.
“We do not want anyone in need to be afraid to turn on their heating, use the electricity or unable to feed themselves or their family.
“Sometimes it’s hard to ask for help but don’t be afraid to get in touch.”
The grant, which can be applied for on the RTF website, is intended to cover essential necessities, including putting food on the table, meeting rising fuel costs, keeping a phone connected, buying school uniforms, or other emergency needs.
The launch of the fund comes at a time when many theatres are facing financial pressures in light of national and local authority funding cuts.
