Welsh council offers artists affordable studios to rent
A project run by a town council in Wales has given artists the opportunity to rent affordable studios.
Penarth Council’s West House Cottage, disused since the pandemic, has been transformed into creative spaces for artists.
The cottage now features six individual workspaces and a shared room for up to three people, alongside a communal area.
Local press reports the studios were taken within hours of being advertised on Instagram. The artists are moving in this month and will begin utilising the space by the new year.
Lewis Prosser, cultural development officer for the council, said future collaborations between the studios and Turner House, a gallery managed by the council, are being considered.
“These could include opportunities for studio artists to participate in exhibitions, workshops, markets, or other curated programmes,” he said.
