Arts Council Wales (ACW) has announced that it has been granted funding from the Welsh government to protect jobs and strengthen resilience in the arts sector.

The funding body said the money was awarded following a period of discussion with government on the difficult financial position of the arts sector in Wales.

It has not disclosed how much organisations can request.

ACW said: “We recognise that this need is urgent, and it is therefore important that we get funding to where it is needed as quickly as possible.

“Early indications from our requests for information on what might be required suggest that demand is likely to exceed the funding available by several times, and therefore, we have developed an application process that will focus on those most in need.”

Grants are only available to assist organisations that are not limited by shares and operate on a not-for-profit basis. Applicants are encouraged to provide evidence that support will put them in a stronger, more sustainable position in the coming months and years.

To access the application form, organisations must first send details about their project.

Applications opened on 16 October and will close at midday on 28 October. Depending on the volume of requests received, ACW aims to share its decisions by mid-December.
