New research is aiming to build up a better picture of access for visually impaired people to UK theatres. VocalEyes, a charity that provides audio description service for theatres, hopes that its survey will provide a better understanding of the difficulties that venues face in making the performing arts accessible for people who are blind and partially sighted, and will provide a clearer indication of the services and activities that are of most value to theatres. The information gathered will also be used to support campaigning and advocacy for better awareness and funding for the right of visually impaired people to experience the arts. Venues of all sizes, whether or not they currently offer audio description, are being encouraged to contribute to the research.
