A gallery run by 150 volunteers with an award winning outreach program has won a Big Society Award from the Prime Minister. The Lightbox Gallery and Museum in Woking used local community fundraising activity, including golf days and sponsored walks, to raise £7m towards the project’s development, which has since had backing from Arts Council England, Woking City Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Director Marilyn Scott said: “We are delighted to have won a Big Society Award which reflects the tremendous endeavours of the volunteers who founded our organisation and our true values to serve our community.”
