D6 appoints new board members
Visual arts producer D6 has announced three new trustees. EMMA DEAN, DIMA KAROUT and LAURA JEFFERY will all begin three-year terms on the board of trustees in April.
A curator, editor and writer, Dean is currently the Curator at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, where she leads the development of the Baltic’s Artists’ Residency Programme.
Prior to Baltic, Dean was Head of Exhibitions at MK Gallery, Milton Keynes. She has also held curatorial positions at Modern Art Oxford and the Pitt Rivers Museum and is a former trustee of the Chiltern Sculpture Trust.
Karout has over 20 years of experience creating and managing art projects, specialising in socially engaged art and its contribution to museums, education, research, well-being, sanctuary and inclusive societies.
Her collaborations in London include the Horniman Museum and Gardens, the British Museum, the Migration Museum and Shakespeare’s Globe. Previously a D6 Associate Artist, she advised on the organisation’s international programme, Artists Connecting in Transition.
Jeffery is a Professor of Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh, working with the displaced Chagossian community from the Chagos Archipelago in the Indian Ocean.
She also works on participatory art methods and creative engagement with migration and displacement in the Middle East and North Africa region. She is Co-Director of the AHRC Maghreb Action on Displacement and Rights Network Plus and plays cello in the Scottish Sinfonia.
TANIA MAHMOUD, Chair of the board said: “I’m delighted to welcome our three new members to D6’s board. Their breadth of knowledge and depth of insight across the arts sector and their own areas of research and expertise will make a vital contribution over the coming years.”
