JOHN BALDOCK is stepping down from his role as Director of Theatre Royal Brighton after 18 years at the venue.

Baldock joined Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), owners of Theatre Royal Brighton, in 2005 as Theatre Manager. He became General Manager of the Brighton theatre in 2010, before stepping up to Director in 2018.

“Over the years I have worked with and met some of the most talented people in the industry,” Baldock said.

“I have had the good fortune to have seen some amazing performances, formed incredible partnerships across the city and had the pleasure of welcoming hundreds of thousands of audience members into a beautiful and very special venue.

“We have embarked on a schedule of major investment and it feels right that somebody else should have the opportunity to lead the venue through this next phase of its development.”

ATG Chief Operating Officer NICK POTTER added that Baldock has done a “first class job” in Brighton.

“I know he will be thoroughly missed across the venue, the business and the city.”

SOPHIE DENNEY, who has been with ATG since 2012, will take over the role of Director at the start of July, with Baldock remaining on hand to support Denney’s transition until September.

“I’m excited to work with such a passionate team, bringing the next chapter to the loyal audiences and community of Brighton,” Denney said.
