CHARLOTTE MILLER and CRAIG WEST have joined the Music Education Council (MEC) as trustees.

As Programme Director of the National Youth Orchestra (NYO) of Great Britain, West oversees all its activities, including equity and open access programmes.

Before joining NYO, West held roles at the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Sage Gateshead, the Royal Northern Sinfonia and, more recently, as General Manager of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and London Sinfonietta.

A music therapist working in NHS hospitals, schools and care homes, Miller founded Intergenerational Music Making in 2017 and Co-Founded Intergenerational England in 2023. She is also the Chair of Surrey Music Hub.

Miller said she was honoured to serve as a trustee for MEC, noting that "the contribution that music education can make to society is more essential than ever.

"MEC aims to nurture an environment where educators can support everyone to connect, grow and thrive through music," she continued.

"We know that currently, many barriers exist that prevent people from being engaged in music education. We intend to dismantle those barriers."
