NT names new Deputy Artistic Director
The National Theatre (NT) has appointed ROBERT HASTIE as Deputy Artistic Director. He will take up the post in January 2025.
Hastie announced in March that he would be stepping down as Artistic Director of Sheffield Theatres after eight years at the helm.
During his tenure there, the venue has seen national recognition for several productions, including Standing at the Sky’s Edge, which transferred to the NT before heading to the West End. His other directing credits include Operation Mincemeat, also playing in the West End.
Associate Director of the Donmar Warehouse from 2014 to 2019, Hastie was previously an actor, performing at the NT in 2009-2010 in All’s Well that Ends Well and Nation.
Hastie will work closely with incoming Artistic Director and Co-Chief Executive INDHU RUBASINGHAM to support and shape the National Theatre’s creative output.
Director Designate Rubasingham said: "I am delighted to welcome Robert Hastie as Deputy Artistic Director. Having been Artistic Director of Sheffield Theatres for eight years, producing popular work of exceptional quality, coupled with his commitment to develop emerging talent, Robert will be an asset to the NT when he joins next year.”
