An award worth over £200,000 from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation will enable the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to run a new professional development programme for its entire workforce of 112 musicians and professional staff. Described as “the first strategically driven, fully integrated Continuing Professional Development programme in the UK performing arts sector”, it will run over a three-year period, but will aim to bring immediate and sustainable benefits to the organisation. The first year will focus on developing new skills throughout the organisation, which will be implemented in the second year and in the third year the organisation will work with the Association of British Orchestras and the Scottish Government to share what it has learned. Evaluation Support Scotland has helped to draft a model to evaluate the benefits derived from the programme.
