Tate membership tops Europe’s galleries
Tate membership has passed 100,000 and is the largest scheme of all Europe’s galleries and arts venues. The annual subscription fee of between £60 and £120 allows members to visit all Tate exhibitions as many times as they wish; they also receive a bi-monthly guide and magazine and have the use of members’ rooms at both galleries. The membership scheme was founded in 1958 to support the Tate Gallery and has since contributed to the acquisition of over 400 works. It has grown significantly since Tate Modern opened in 2000, when there were just 25,000 members, and in recent years 86 per cent of members renew each year on average.
