Tourism fund to showcase the North
£10m of DCMS funding will be used to attract more international visitors to the north of England.
Influential travel journalists will be invited to experience festivals and cultural attractions in the north of England following the announcement by the DCMS of a £10m tourism fund aimed at establishing the area as a top tourist destination. The new funding will support tourism bodies in Yorkshire and Humberside, the North West and North East to present a collective offer that will attract international visitors – specifically from the USA, China, Germany, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand. Selling the area under one umbrella will, they say, make it easier for potential visitors looking online to see the full range of Northern attractions. Manchester International Festival in July, and the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire in May, have already been identified as unique events to hook international visitors.
