Emin to join British Museum Board

Artist TRACEY EMIN is set to join the British Museum's Board of Trustees, succeeding GRAYSON PERRY. 

Emin will be the first female Royal Academician appointed to the role in the museum's history. 

Her practice ranges from drawing, painting, needlework and sculpture to film and photography, with her work My Bed nominated for the Turner Prize in 1999.

She has recently focused on supporting the regeneration of her hometown of Margate, building her primary studio there alongside TKE Studios, a free eighteen-month learning experience for artists.

Emin joins a Board of 20 members, including MARY BEARD, MINOUCHE SHAFI and Chair GEORGE OSBORNE. 

Osbourne called Emin “one of Britain’s greatest artists”.

“Having regenerated her hometown through her willpower, I know she will bring incredible energy, insight and creativity to the Board."

Emin said the British Museum is "one of [her] favourite museums in the entire world.

"I’m very proud to be a trustee, and I hope my presence will be a positive contribution."
