The Music Education Council (MEC) has announced BARRY FARRIMOND-CHUONG MBE and MICHELLE JAMES as its new Co-Chairs.

They take over from PHIL CASTANG who has led the charity through a period of change over the past few years.

The new appointments come at a pivotal time for MEC as it embarks on a campaign targeting the lack of equity, diversity and inclusion in music education.

On taking up the new role, Farrimond-Chuong MBE said: "I am honoured to work alongside Michelle and the MEC board to deliver our vision of 'A future where music education enables everyone to connect, grow, and thrive'. MEC is committed to working tirelessly to nurture an environment where educators can support everyone to connect, grow and thrive through music."

Michelle James added: “We know that music education is still too exclusionary and that too many barriers exist to genuine inclusion for all. We are making this our priority and are committed to working with others, particularly those with lived experience of exclusion and bias, to make meaningful change happen.”
