New appointments to National Museums Liverpool board
Culture Secretary LUCY FRAZER has named JOHN BELCHEM, DINAH BIRCH, LYNN COLLINS, ANNA FARTHING and PHILIP LLOYD as trustees of National Museums Liverpool.
Belchem is an historian. He worked at the University of Liverpool for 33 years, serving as Head of History, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and then Pro-Vice Chancellor. He is the currently Vice-President of the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire.
Birch is Emeritus Professor of English Literature at the University of Liverpool. As Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Cultural Engagement, she oversaw the university’s cultural programme. She is a frequent contributor to The Times Literary Supplement, BBC Radio 4's In Our Time and Sky Arts' documentary broadcasts.
Joining them is Collins, the current Director of Field Services at the Royal College of Midwives. An active member in trade unions, social justice and equality movements, she has worked to commemorate the role of women in Liverpool’s labour history.
As Arts University Bournemouth’s Director of Civic and Cultural Engagement, Farthing is responsible for cultural assets, research, and innovation. She is also a creative producer and cultural consultant, with experience in programming and strategy, and launch and regeneration projects.
Lloyd has a 30-year professional background in the education sector, working in schools and colleges, and with local authorities. Presently, he is an Executive Principal and Ofsted Inspector.
The appointees will serve for an initial four-year term.
