New Artistic Director at Red Ladder

Red Ladder Theatre Company will welcome CHERYL MARTIN as Artistic Director in January 2024.

Martin is a theatre director and writer, working with organisations including Contact Theatre, Traverse Theatre, Royal Exchange and Oldham Coliseum.

In 2015, she co-founded the LGBTQ+ global majority performance arts company Black Gold Arts, which took part in the Eurovision cultural festival. 

Martin is also Co-Director of Manchester Pride’s Candlelight Vigil.

Co-Chair of Red Ladder's Board, FIONA GELL, said Martin is an "extraordinary practitioner with a great deal of experience and a wealth of ideas.

"We’re excited to see how the company will evolve under her dynamic artistic leadership."

Martin commented: “For me, this is the dream job! To be able to work with a company with so much history and reach into so many communities. 

"I feel incredibly lucky. I get to develop artists, to look for new audiences and the people and shows that will appeal to them, and I get to direct every now and then."
