New Diorama Theatre names Artistic Director
New Diorama Theatre (NDT) has appointed BEC MARTIN as Artistic Director and Chief Executive Officer.
A director and programmer, Martin's work has been performed nationally and internationally, including at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Soho Theatre, Arcola Theatre, Orange Tree Theatre, and Sydney Theatre Company.
Martin most recently worked at VAULT Festival as their inaugural Head of Programming. She has also led engagement and community work at Orange Tree Theatre as Education and Participation Director and at Arcola Theatre as Participation Manager.
She joins NDT in January, succeeding founding Artistic Director and CEO DAVID BYRNE, who leaves after more than a decade to head the Royal Court Theatre.
During his tenure at the independent theatre studio, Byrne launched NDT Broadgate after the COVID pandemic, offering free rehearsal space for emerging authors, playwrights and artists.
Martin said she "could not be more thrilled" to join NDT.
"Under David's unparalleled stewardship, NDT has rewritten the rulebook and established itself as the place where new theatrical voices can find space, support and a foothold into the industry.
"It's a heavy mantle to take up, but I'm so honoured to be entrusted with it."
NDT Chair PHILIP GRAHAM added: “I am absolutely delighted that Bec Martin has agreed to join New Diorama as our next Artistic Director and CEO.
"Bec shares our commitment to supporting emerging companies and artists has a strong background in working with London’s diverse communities, and will bring the energy, ideas and passion needed to lead NDT successfully into the future.”
