ELIZA CARTHY is The English Folk Dance and Song Society's new President.

She is the society's fifth president since it was founded in 1932, succeeding SHIRELY COLLINS, who held the post for 12 years.

Carthy has been Vice-President since 2008 and says she is delighted to accept the new position.

"The English Folk Dance and Song Society continues to be custodian of the people's shared cultural history whilst looking forward to the future."

Folk singer, songwriter and music educator ANGELINE MORRISON and former Spare Tyre CEO and Artistic Director ARTI PRASHAR will join its board of trustees.

"Arti and Angeline both bring a wealth of experience and wisdom, including in many areas which historically have been under-represented amongst our Board," commented Chair LORNA AIZLEWOOD.
