BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (SSO) has named RYAN WIGGLESWORTH as its new Chief Conductor.

He will succeed THOMAS DAUSGAARD, who continues in post until the autumn.

A conductor, composer and pianist, Wigglesworth has recorded a range of repertoires with the SSO and will conduct the orchestra this Sunday (February 13) for a performance marking the BBC’s centenary.

He will make his debut as Chief Conductor when he opens the orchestra’s 2022/23 season on September 22.

“I feel immensely privileged to be starting this journey with the wonderful and uniquely versatile musicians of the BBC SSO, a journey which I hope will prove to be long, fruitful and ever adventurous,” he said.
