Ramps Cymru welcomes Director for Change
Ramps Cymru, a collaboration between five Welsh organisations, has announced SARAH BEER as their first Director for Change.
The partner organisations include Theatr Clwyd, Sherman Theatre, Pontio Arts, The Torch Theatre and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.
At Ramps Cymru, she will work with these organisations to create meaningful and sustainable change to improve the representation of disabled people across Wales’ mainstream theatre sector.
The first stage will incorporate audits of each partner organisation, engaging in sector conversations, conducting training sessions across the companies, and modelling details for a change programme for the next five years.
Beer is a performer, director, and disability advocate. She began her acting career with Graeae Theatre Company, a London-based organisation working with Deaf and disabled artist, before returning to Wales and working with Disability Arts Cymru (DAC).
During her time at DAC, Beer co-ordinated and directed the Unusual Stage School, providing training and performance opportunities to a company of Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent performers.
"I am passionate about creating opportunities for Deaf and disabled theatre practitioners," Beer said.
"I am looking forward to working with the theatre sector across Wales to really make a difference."
