New music biennial seeks compositions

The first UK-wide music biennial, to take place in 2014, is seeking proposals from organisations to work with composers to create 20 new works to be performed across the country. Building on last year’s 20×12 project, which commissioned 20 new compositions as part of the Cultural Olympiad, PRS for Music Foundation is looking for work with an international dimension in any genre to mark Glasgow’s hosting of the Commonwealth Games. Roger Wright, Controller of BBC Radio 3 and Director of BBC Proms, will chair a panel of experts who will select the 20 works, following the deadline for applications on 4 March.   Compositions will be presented in 2014 and will include performances at the Southbank Centre and in Glasgow during the Games, recognising the city’s role as UNESCO City of Music.
