New research to examine workplace bullying in the arts

Researchers examining workplace bullying are inviting feedback from anyone with experience of bullying in the arts and cultural sector.

Anne-Marie Quigg, author of ‘Bullying in the Arts’, is co-writing a chapter for a new book on workplace bullying with Piers Jackson.

In 2013, a survey of 4,000 people working in arts and entertainment concluded these industries are “hotspots” for bullying, after 56% of respondents said they had been bullied, harassed or discriminated against at work.

Jackson said: “We are asking for feedback from people who have experienced workplace bullying in the cultural sector, how it has affected them and how, if at all, they managed to deal with it.

“We are interested in those who have been targets, those who have been the subject of a complaint or allegation, and those in management who have had to deal with a bullying situation.”

He added: “Any information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.”

They would also like to hear about any recent research on the subject in the sector.

The book, which will cover a number of sectors, will be published by US publisher Springer.
