Live Music Act implemented
The Live Music Act 2012 has been implemented from 1 October, allowing venues with a capacity of less than 200 people to host music events without a license. The bill means that small venues and “defined workplaces” can play amplified music between 8pm and 11pm. The change in law means that over 13,000 more venues can host music events and 24000 can increase their current provision. The Musician’s Union has issued an advice pack for small businesses thinking of hosting live music events under the new rules, demonstrating how they can enhance business and increase revenue. Critics of the bill see the potential for a rise in noise complaints in built up areas.
