£55m arts centre for public and students opens at Salford University
A 350-seat theatre and a smaller studio space are included as part of plans to make the building “a mainstay of Greater Manchester’s cultural landscape”.
A £55m arts centre for public and student use is set to open at the University of Salford next week.
Primarily designed to bring ‘state of the art facilities’ to students studying Art, Design, Fashion and other creative courses, the Adelphi Arts Centre also provides a flexible 350-seat theatre for public, community and student performances.
The building also includes:
- Studio theatre and amphitheatre spaces
- Specialist art and design workshops
- Dance and performance rehearsal rooms
- Recording studios
- Professional quality TV studios
The centre intends to deepen the University’s ‘Industry Collaboration Zone’ policy, which links students with industry professionals – such as HOME, The Lowry, the BBC and ITV – during their degree programmes.
Professor Allan Walker, Dean of the School of Arts and Media, said: “We expect New Adelphi will soon be recognised as one of the UK’s most advanced creative production and training facilities for all forms of performance, plastic arts and for design combined with media and digital technologies.
“The building will not only provide an artistic hub for our students, but a programme of events will make it a mainstay of Greater Manchester’s cultural landscape.”
